Who We Are
The Raft Refuge, LLC is a Black/African-American owned business that collaborates with Resettlement agencies (RA) to provide housing for refugees/newcomers resettling in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Shoni Newhouse was inspired to provide housing for refugees after returning from a mission's trip to Kenya.
Shoni Newhouse is a psychotherapist with advanced degrees in Biology, Pastoral care, and Professional Counseling. She is currently working on her doctorate in public health. Shoni has traveled to numerous countries that has contributed to her approach to providing housing to refugees/newcomers.
We purchase homes and renovate and design them for newcomers/refugees. The homes are furnished upon newcomers arrival. Internet is included in the rent for immediate access to family members. Housing options are available for 1 up to 9 family members.

Community Orientation
We provide culturally furnished rental property for refugees upon arrival to Michigan. The homes are equipped with wifi and a chromebook for immediate access to family and friends. Transportation is provided from the Kalamazoo airport. And a welcome meal provided.

Community navigators orient new Americans to their community. Orientation includes, grocery shopping, riding the bus, obtaining a library card, understanding the geography and culture of a community, connecting with community resources and much more. Resettlement agencies, community members, and organizations can call for pricing.
